For Dr. Kateryna Huz, dentistry has always been a part of her life. Growing up around her father’s dental practice, she spent her early years learning the ins and outs of the profession, starting at the front desk when she was just 16 years old. While her father, a general dentist, never pressured her to follow the same path, his passion for caring for patients naturally inspired her own career.

After earning her dental degree from NYU and completing her orthodontic residency at Columbia University, Dr. Huz joined her father’s practice, bringing her expertise in orthodontics to the family business. As the practice grew, so did their vision. They needed more space and wanted to create a modern office that reflected the next chapter of the family practice. When they stumbled upon a storefront at 10 Nevins Street while walking through Downtown Brooklyn, they immediately knew it was the perfect fit.

Today, Huz Orthodontics is a true family practice, with Dr. Huz and her father working side by side. Dr. Huz specializes in orthodontic care such as braces and Invisalign, for patients ranging from children as young as seven to people in their nineties, while her father continues to provide comprehensive general dentistry. Together, they offer families the convenience of receiving both orthodontic and general dental care in one welcoming office.

When designing the new space, Dr. Huz wanted it to feel different from a traditional dental office. Flooded with natural light and thoughtfully designed for patients of all ages, the practice strikes a balance between modern, clinical excellence and a warm, calming atmosphere. Kid-friendly features, like prize machines, help younger patients feel excited about their visits, while the clean, contemporary design creates a comfortable experience for all.

Although the Huz family grew up in South Brooklyn, they have served the Downtown Brooklyn community for more than two decades. Dr. Huz says the neighborhood’s diversity and energy are what have kept them here. “There are so many families, young professionals, and longtime residents,” she says. “It’s always changing and improving.”

Another major factor is accessibility. With thirteen subway lines, the Long Island Rail Road, and  extensive bus service, Downtown Brooklyn is easy for patients to visit from across the city. Today, Huz Orthodontics welcomes patients from Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan, Long Island, and beyond.

For Dr. Huz, one of the most rewarding parts of orthodontics is building lasting relationships. Because patients return every four to six weeks throughout their treatment, she has the opportunity to see children become teenagers, celebrate milestones with families, and form connections that extend well beyond creating beautiful smiles.

As Huz Orthodontics continues to grow, Dr. Huz is looking forward to becoming even more involved in the Downtown Brooklyn community. She hopes to get to know more local families and residents, continuing the tradition of personalized, relationship-driven care that has defined her family’s practice for more than 20 years.
