For more than 20 years, Kadi Bah has built her career in the beauty industry. Now, as the owner of Cut & Blow at Salons by JC (1 Boerum Pl), she’s bringing a simple but distinctive concept to Downtown Brooklyn: express haircuts and blowouts, all under one roof.
The idea for Cut & Blow was years in the making. Wanting to understand the blowout bar model from the inside out, she intentionally worked in every position at a blow-dry salon, even while holding the management role, to learn the business firsthand.
When the salon Kadi worked at in the neighborhood closed in 2023, Bah saw an opportunity to finally bring her own concept to life. The road to opening Cut & Blow, however, took a few more turns. In addition to working in the beauty industry, she worked as a medical coordinator and CPR instructor, provided mobile hair services to clients in their homes, and helped her cousins launch and operate a wellness business. Through those experiences, she gained a broad range of entrepreneurial skills, from developing standard operating procedures to managing day-to-day operations.

When it came time to find a permanent location for Cut & Blow, Bah initially envisioned a traditional storefront. But with the cost of storefront space, she began exploring other options. Salons by JC was nearby; she simply had never stepped inside. At her husband’s suggestion, she went for a tour.
Kadi opened Cut & Blow in March 2026 with a bigger vision in mind: to create a successful proof of concept that could eventually grow into a franchise, an academy, and a full line of branded hair products and tools.
The concept itself is intentionally straightforward. Cut & Blow specializes in two services: haircuts and blowouts. The goal is to make getting your hair done quick and convenient, whether you’re stopping in during your lunch break or fitting an appointment into a busy day.
“There are full-service salons, color salons, or places that primarily do haircuts,” Bah says. “But you don’t really have a blow bar that provides both.”
For Bah, that gap is exactly what makes Cut & Blow stand out. She sees an opportunity to offer a focused, express experience that gives customers exactly what they need without the commitment of a traditional full-service salon.

And Downtown Brooklyn was a natural place to build it. Born and raised in Brooklyn and now living in the neighborhood, Bah knows firsthand what makes the area special. With multiple subway lines and other transportation options, plus restaurants, shops, City Point, the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and DUMBO just minutes away, she sees Downtown Brooklyn as a place where customers can easily make a whole day of their visit.
“It’s the heart of Brooklyn,” she says. “You’re literally downtown, so you have everything and anything.”
For a Brooklyn native with a background in both business and beauty, opening Cut & Blow in Downtown Brooklyn brings those two worlds together—and marks the beginning of an entrepreneurial vision that extends far beyond the salon chair.
