Bang on a Can: Long Play Festival at TFANA

Three performances in one night at Theater for a New Audience, as a part of Long Play Festival 2026.

4 pm – Steve Lehman Trio + Mark Turner: The Music of Anthony Braxton
6:30 pm – The Kris Davis Trio featuring Robert Hurst and special guest Jeff Tain Watts
9 pm – Sylvie Courvoisier and Wadada Leo Smith

Saxophonist/composer Steve Lehman and his long-running trio – featuring bassist Matt Brewer and drummer Damion Reid – are joined by special guest tenor saxophonist Mark Turner for The Music of Anthony Braxton, commemorating the 80th anniversary of Braxton’s birth.

Kris Davis Trio performs music from “Run the Gauntlet,” her latest album. A testament to Davis’ singular voice within the jazz landscape, “Run the Gauntlet” serves as a metaphor for overcoming challenges to achieve one’s goals. In this project, Davis pays homage to six trailblazing women pianists: Geri Allen, Carla Bley, Renee Rosnes, Angelica Sanchez, Marilyn Crispell, and Sylvie Courvoisier.

Sylvie Courvoisier is a Swiss American pianist, composer, improviser, and bandleader whose work bridges the rigor of European chamber music with the exploratory spirit of the city’s downtown jazz scene. She is known for her distinctive compositional voice and fearless improvisation. Wadada Leo Smith is a Pulitzer Prize–nominated composer, trumpeter, and visionary artist whose work has profoundly shaped the landscape of creative music for more than five decades.
