Field: Architecture and design

HQ: 320 Livingston Street

Co-founded by two renowned architects, SO-IL has designed projects across the globe and garnered significant recognition including the Curbed Groundbreakers Award and the MoMA PS1 Young Architects Prize. In 2016, the diverse team relocated from DUMBO to Downtown Brooklyn where they now work from a bright and airy studio and model shop above a Livingston Street storefront.

Brooklyn Talent

Most of SO-IL’s team lives in the borough, and the average staff member commutes between home and the studio in under half an hour. Many walk and bike to work, and principals and staff alike appreciate short travel times and being able to access a range of local amenities, eateries, and urban green spaces.

Local and Global

SO-IL’s roster ranges from the City of Paris to the Whitney Museum and the team has worked on civic, exhibition, and cultural spaces across the US and in cities like Milan, Seoul, and Melbourne. Closer to home, their portfolio includes residential homes in neighborhoods like Clinton Hill and Boerum Hill that allow the team to make their mark locally.

Connected Creatives

SO-IL is interested in sharing ideas and collaborating both within the studio, and with other design firms in Brooklyn to build on the creative community rooted in the area. Team members meet up for lunch and conversation on the roof of their building, and connect with colleagues based in the Metropolitan Exchange cooperative on Flatbush Avenue.
