Cultural organizations around the neighborhood are hosting special events in honor of this history — explore some of your options below.

Jamel Gaines Creative Outlet: REMEMBERING
Jamel Gaines Creative Outlet presents REMEMBERING, a multimedia program that celebrates Black history featuring dance, theatre, and video projection at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Fisher Fishman Space. Get tickets to the performances on Friday, February 17 and Saturday, February 18.

On America: “The Big Payback” and Reparations (Screening and Discussion)
The Center for Fiction and Color Farm Media will present a screening of The Big Payback, a film about reparations for African Americans on Saturday, February 18. Borough Hall Celebrates Black History Month
Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso invites you to celebrate Black History Month with an opening reception of the Brooklyn is Africa: Survival + Persistence = Resistance exhibit on February 23. This exhibit will be open to the public from Feb. 24 to Mar. 3, between the hours of 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The evening will include authentic cultural performances and light refreshments.
Black Creatives and Culture Fest: Black History Month Edition ‘23
Downtown Brooklyn-based clothing boutique DA SPOT will be hosting the third annual Black Creatives and Culture Fest on the last weekend of February, from the 24th to the 26th. Head to City Point BKLYN to support over 50 BIPOC creatives, browse art exhibits, and dance to reggae, R&B, soca, and house music played by a live DJ. Get tickets.
