November 26 is Small Business Saturday! Every neighborhood depends on its community of dedicated small businesses to thrive, and Downtown Brooklyn is no different. This Saturday, celebrate Downtown Brooklyn’s small businesses — here are ten for your consideration:
Fulton Hot Dog King
As one of Fulton Mall’s oldest small businesses, Fulton Hot Dog King has cemented itself as an unofficial Downtown Brooklyn landmark. Since 1914, this local favorite has been revered for its classic sausages, hamburgers, and smoothies, which have fed Brooklynites for generations. Its iconic red and white signage is impossible to miss when walking along the Fulton Mall, so be sure to take a break with the Hot Dog King at 472 Fulton Street when you’re out shopping this Small Business Saturday.
Beautiful Amore Skincare
Located at the Prince St. corridor of City Point BKLYN, Beautiful Amore Skincare is a Black-owned woman-owned business specializing in all-natural vegan care products. Their offerings include soaps, body butter, scrubs, and more — all of which are free from the harsh artificial ingredients found in many mainstream skin care products.
Jide’s Dandy
This eclectic men’s clothing store is another iconic Downtown Brooklyn establishment, having been open on the corner of Willoughby and Jay for over a quarter of a century. All of the menswear is curated by local fashion legend and owner Jide Omo, whose work has been featured on a number of television and Broadway shows. Jide is happy to help customers find their next best suit, so greet him with a warm welcome when you visit his shop at 375 Jay St.
Da Spot
Speaking of local fashion, Da Spot is a clothing boutique founded by entrepreneur Michelle Cadore that has slowly but surely established itself as a cultural fixture of Downtown Brooklyn. Da Spot provides over 25 independent Black-owned brands with the space, visibility, economic opportunities, and community needed to thrive in a competitive market. By supporting Da Spot this Small Business Saturday, you’re also directly supporting the small artists that make Brooklyn the vibrant borough that it is today.
Pio Bagel
Wars have been fought over who sells the best NYC bagels, but in Downtown Brooklyn, the answer to that question is clear. Brought to you by the minds behind Tio Pio, Pio Bagel is a Latino family-owned establishment offering not only signature bagels, but sandwiches, salads, soups, and desserts. Pio Bagel recently opened its doors at a second location — they’re now open at both 136 Lawrence Street and 6 Flatbush Avenue.
Downtown Natural Market
Conveniently located just outside the northeast Jay St.-MetroTech subway station entrance at 395 Jay Street, Downtown Natural Market is a local food shop with aisles of vitamins, herbs, vegetarian food, gluten-free snacks, and a smoothie bar. Keep your immune system up to speed this winter — give the Downtown Natural Market a visit this Small Business Saturday.
Imani Caribbean Grill
The flavors of the islands have found their way onto Fulton Mall in the form of Imani Caribbean Grill, a fast-casual restaurant at 519 Fulton Street with offerings that pay homage to popular dishes from countries such as Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago. Executive Chef Banta has perfected a menu that never fails to satisfy, whether you’ve ordered the oxtail or the boneless jerk chicken.
8-Bit Bites
Downtown Brooklyn is a symbol of nostalgia for many Brooklynites, and that nostalgia extends to one of the neighborhood’s newest and most creative food spots: 8-Bit Bites. Dressed in ‘80s and ‘90s décor, this new fast-food eatery at 113 Court Street sells classically American burgers, fried chicken sandwiches, tenders, French fries, milkshakes, and more. The nostalgic fun doesn’t end there – fully-functioning PlayStation 1 systems are available to play while you eat.
Sun & Sky Spa
Give yourself (or a friend!) some mental and physical relaxation with a visit to this new spa at 222 Livingston Street. Sun and Sky Spa offers a wide range of body treatments, including scrubs, massages, and wraps. Indulge and destress — you deserve it.
Wright & Goebel Wine & Spirits
End your Small Business Saturday on a high note by sharing a bottle from Wright & Goebel, a local winery at 346 Livingston Street with a wide selection of wines and spirits that is sure to suit your taste. This holiday season, Wright & Goebel is running a special discount: get 15% off any wine purchase when you use the code CHRISTMAS2022 at checkout — online or in-person. See offer details.
