Aerialists + Acrobats Creative Residency @ City Point
Residency marks the first time furloughed artists can display their amazing acts of innovative movements, resiliency, and flexibility while adhering to Covid-19 guidelines.

Last week, City Point announced that its creative residency for NYC’s top aerialists and acrobats was ready to soar, right here in Downtown Brooklyn.

Since the pandemic and subsequent lockdown struck early last year, NYC’s top circus performers have experienced difficulty finding work and training in fee-based studios. The two-month residency with City Point was created to give these artists access to BKLYN STUDIOS to practice, train, and get back into their craft - with the added benefit of a built-in audience of City Point shoppers.

The showcases feature performers of Broadway, movie, and television fame, such as Ernst-Alper and Kris Olness (co-owner of Aerial Arts), Lani Corson (of Broadway’s Chicago national tour and co-owner of 2 Ring Circus), Rebecca Fey (aerial director of the soon-to-launch recreational aerial program at VITAL Climbing Gym and producer of Cat’s Eye Cabaret), Crista Marie Jackson (Zendaya’s stunt double on The Greatest Showman), and Ivory Fox (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel)

Photographer Giles Clement collaborated with organizers to photograph aerialists, burlesque personalities, clowns, and dancers, and these photographs will be on sale in the Atrium at City Point. Proceeds from the sales will be shared with the performing artists to help them through the pandemic.

The residency takes place from January 8th to February 28th, and is free for the public to view from windows in the City Point main passageway, accessible from entrances at 445 Albee Square West and 336 Flatbush Avenue Extension.
COVID-19 regulations will be strictly enforced. Showcases take place on Thursdays at 7pm and Sundays at 12pm; rehearsals take place on weekdays from 9am to 1pm and 6pm to 9pm, and on Sundays from 10am–7pm.
