Willoughby Walks: Street Art

For three consecutive Wednesdays, enjoy a traffic-free oasis on Willoughby and Lawrence Streets, each week with a different theme! In partnership with NYC Department of Transportation and sponsored by JPMorgan Chase.

Willoughby Street Art: May 22
B-boy performances, pop and locking classes, public art activations, DJs, an open mic, all ending in a dance party with Vinyl Nights - all music will be spun on vinyl!


12:00 - 1:00PM The Drumadics
The Stage
Driven by the raw power of the bucket drum and a strong emphasis on the down beat, the beat-n-brass Drumadics fuse woodwinds, brass, and unorthodox drum styles to deliver a unique, distinct, and fun sound.

12:00-8:00PM, 3D Street Painting
Anthony Cappetto is an internationally recognized 3D street painting artist working in chalk and paint, creating interactive illusions in public and private spaces in the US, Europe, Middle East, India, Japan, and the Americas.

12:00-8:00PM, Live Painting
Erick Alejandro Hernandez is an artist from Cuba living and working in New York City. Rooted in traditional image making, Erick’s paintings are orchestrations of memories that have been reimagined in order to explore various simultaneous histories of loss and displacement.

1:00 - 2:30PM DJ ACE The Cut Lieutenant/Acu Rhodes
The Stage
Brooklyn-born DJ ACE The Cut Lieutenant/ Acu Rhodes has been DJing for 35 years and with the NYPD for 22. He has appeared on NY1, FOX 5, showcased on Funkmaster Flex’s Five Minutes of Funk series and is currently working with LL COOL J on Rock the Bells Radio.

2:30 - 3:30PM Hip Hop Jam Session + Cipher with Luss
A variety of beats will be played and everyone is encouraged to come up and freestyle.

3:30 - 4:30PM It’s Showtime NYC!
It’s Showtime NYC! celebrates street culture and provides performance and professional opportunities to street and subway dancers as a legal alternative to dancing in subway cars. Join in for a performance, pop n lock workshop, and a Seven to Smoke battle!

5:00 - 8:00PM Vinyl Nights Summer Kick Off with DJ Misbehaviour & Kenny Parker (Boogie Down Productions)
The Stage
Now in its 4th year, NYC’s largest vinyl outdoor dance party comes to Downtown Brooklyn with all the classic hits that shaped NYC club culture from 1972 to 1992.


1 – 5PM, Uni Project’s DRAW NYC
The Uni Project creates learning environments in public space across New York City. Using custom-designed infrastructure, they pop-up in parks, plazas, and other public spaces to offer reading, drawing, and hands-on experiences for all ages. DRAW NYC is their open-air art studio that gives people access to fine art materials and a place to draw in public.

1:30-4:30PM, Tattoo Station
Get an artsy temporary tattoo!

3:00 - 5:00PM, Face Painting
Free face painting courtesy of Downtown Brooklyn’s International Charter School of New York.

Interactive Art Project: Leave your footprint on Willoughby!
Along the Willoughby Walks Footprint
In this community art project, pick up a piece of chalk, trace your footprint, and share your dreams for the neighborhood.

Ping Pong
Pick up a paddle and play some ping pong with our friends from The Push.

Giant Games
Play life-size chess, Connect 4, Jenga, checkers, and croquet, all day long.

Challenge a stranger to a game of chess! Chess sets will be available on bistro tables.

Hula Hooping
Hula Hoops will be out for one and all!

Urban Oasis
Lounge on our beach chairs or enjoy a meal on a green oasis all along Willoughby Street.

Selfie Station
Take a selfie with a street art backdrop!

Community Partners

4:00 - 8:00PM, NYC DOT Public Space Unit
DOT is actively working to rebalance the streets for pedestrians in Downtown Brooklyn. DOT staff will be on site to discuss the Shared Street proposal for Willoughby and Pearl Streets and gather community feedback.
