Brooklyn Music School: Jazz Workshop
This week-long intensive class for intermediate and above musicians aged 11 and up focuses on honing skills for improvisation and small group playing.
Participants will explore the world of jazz improvisation and ensemble playing as they develop their abilities to hear jazz, learn basic scales and chords, build a jazz vocabulary for improvisation, and become familiar with harmonic devices to give them the keys to a new world of musical self-expression.
Led by veteran jazz musician and BMS Jazz Department head Jeff Newell, the course will consist of listening to, watching video of, and discussing classic jazz performances - in addition to hours to enjoy playing jazz. The week will also include master classes with BMS Jazz Faculty members and performance opportunities at local public venues, providing valuable experience and building confidence.
Classes will run Monday through Friday from 9am to 4pm with a lunch break at 12pm.
