A Public Space: Megha Majumdar | Editorial Master Class
Event by A Public Space.
Editors are the champions of writers, but we can also use an editorial toolbox to improve our own writing. What does it look like to be my own editor? How can I create distance between myself and my writing and look at it with an editor’s eye?
Editors and debut authors Megha Majumdar and Megan Cummins will lead an Editorial Master Class on the relationship between an editor and their own writing. How does a writer become their own editor? How can they edit their manuscripts to best articulate their vision? Join me on Saturday, May 30, for the third in a series of Editorial Master Classes where we will examine the different ways an editor and writer work together. And explore what other models might be.
Megha Majumdar is the author of A Burning (Knopf). She works as an editor at Catapult. Born and raised Kolkata, India, she now lives in New York City.
“A BURNING is an excellently crafted, utterly thrilling novel full of characters that I won’t soon forget. Megha Majumdar writes about the ripple effects of our choices, the interconnectedness of our humanity, with striking beauty and clarity. A stunning debut.” –Yaa Gyasi author of Homegoing
Megan Cummins is the author of the forthcoming story collection If the Body Allows It (University of Nebraska Press). She is the managing editor of A Public Space and lives in Brooklyn, NY.
“What would Emma Bovary face in our 21st century—would she find her needed liberty, or trudge through a life that is only different from hers cosmetically? These questions arise when I read If the Body Allows It. Megan Cummins is a gifted storyteller, and these stories, intimately written, nevertheless peel off all layers from everyday existence to reveal the deep wounds, the tender hopes, and the dilemmas, tragic and comic, of the modern-day Emmas in the world.” – Yiyun Li, author of Where Reasons End
