Show Brooklyn Some Love Fest

Inspired by Brooklyn Org’s new awareness campaign, “Show Brooklyn Some Love,” the fest will feature the completion of a 24-foot Brooklyn Bridge constructed entirely from recyclable materials including cardboard tube pylons, plastic ribbon suspensions, plastic bottles boats, and more.. Led by Koko NYC, the project invites kids to build the model over 4 sessions throughout the week, including at the fest on Saturday. The event will also include hip hop workshops, music making, face painting, drum circles, spoken word, Tai Chi, and more.

Kongo Family Drum Circle: Teaching artist, Oneza LeFontant, will lead a musical circle of traditional African Caribbean music, raising awareness about history and culture.

Girl be Heard Poetry Reading: Artivists (ages 16-21) will present spoken word pieces on social issues close to their hearts. This family-friendly performance aims to educate, inspire, and engage the community through the powerful medium of spoken word.

Hip Hop Lessons with Jamal Gaines Creative Outlet: Uplifting communities through education, performance and cultural programming, Gaines who has worked with Whitney Houston, Savion Glover, Cassandra Wilson, Rick James and others, will teach Hip Hop Workshops.

12:30 PM

Tai Chi with Heights & Hills: Participants will use slow, controlled movements to improve fitness and reduce stress.

1:00 PM

Dancewave Dance Party: A multigenerational dance experience for movers of any age, ability or background. Styles are inspired by Bollywood, West African, East African Arabic Dance, Modern/Contemporary dance and more.
