Dial-an-Ancestor In-Practice Session
Dial-an-Ancestor by Tamika Abaka-Wood is a long term participatory audio-service which is intended to be active 24/7 for 100 years. It reimagines who is asked to speak, what is spoken, how it is received and recorded. It is a living, breathing, growing tapestry of context, contradiction and wisdom centered around what it means to be alive right now.
Rooted in cultural anthropology, anti-disciplinary artistry and social practice we challenge colonized forms of knowledge production by centering and sharing our humanity, voices and experiences by co-creating a space that feels both intimate and insightful. Ancestors-in-Practice is a session leading up to the Land Black! group show coming to MoCADA this August.
Join MoCADA for the in-person Dial-An-Ancestor in-practice sessions. Each session will kick off with a 15-minute audio-visual piece from Dial-an-Ancestor, followed by a intentionally designed dialogue-resource-prompt share which leads to an open hour of personal ticketed sessions for those who feel called to record.
