Apply Now: Affordable Housing at 66 Rockwell Place
Applications are now being accepted for those who wish to be considered for affordable apartments at the currently-under-construction 66 Rockwell Place (formerly known as 29 Flatbush Ave.), only blocks away from BAM and Barclays Center.
According to the announcement, the construction and rates were made possible through the New York State Housing Finance Agency’s “Deep-Rent Skewed and Low Income Housing Tax Credit Programs and Financing.” That sounds like a mouthful, but translates roughly to an apartment building with 63 units – ranging from studios to 2-bedrooms with monthly rents from $546 to $907 – made available specifically for residents with household incomes between $20,640 and $42,950. The full list of details regarding prices and units is available here.
This is good news for those seeking affordable housing. According to MNS, 66 Rockwell’s affordable units will come in at nearly one-quarter of the rental rates in neighboring Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO. With the 2011 Census reporting a median income of $44,593 for Brooklyn households, 66 Rockwell opens housing in a desirable Downtown Brooklyn location to a significant population of Brooklynites.
For those interested in applying for the affordable housing rates, applicants must provide and postmark the necessary materials outlined in this form before May 21st. Applicants will be contacted for interviews once units are available for them.
